Hello everyone! This is No from Matsuno Watch Shop.
Today, we closed the shop early due to the typhoon. So, today is Raijin. It's the long-awaited Sapp vs. Osunaarashi.
Are you looking forward to it? Oh, you're not going to watch it. Is it Horiguchi vs Tenshin after all? Oh, you're not even interested? Well, I suppose so.
This is just my opinion, but I feel like boxing has been left far behind without me realizing it. I used to watch more martial arts than boxing, but now I watch Raijin almost entirely on fast forward.
If it had been a different time, Murata Ryota might have gone to Pride. Oh, sure, why not? Let's do it, Tenshin vs. Takeru. New Year's Eve. That's the only way to revive martial arts. There are people who can be the main star even if they're not in the heavyweight division.
In times like these, Naoya Inoue would also be proud... Ah, isn't that right? I want someone stronger than the organizations to come out! ...He never comes out. It always feels like a mixed martial arts of pro wrestling, I say as I watch. I miss UWF Inter. Ariyoshi and Weekly Pro are fun.
Despite my complaints, today I'm feeling like I'm becoming more familiar with my watch. I've got a Valjoux, an IWC for the first time in a while, and a rare Schauer.
Gears and drills
The item you requested is a Valjoux 730. I think the 730 is the successor to the 72C, but it has a triple calendar and a chronograph. It is inoperable, and although the calendar can be fast-forwarded, it is not synchronized with the time.
The photo shows the gears that move the calendar, and you can see the magatama-like part in the middle. Normally, a thin spring is attached to the end of the magatama. This spring moves the date and day indicators, but it has broken off and is missing.
First, I looked for new parts, but of course there were none. Then I looked for used parts, but there were none. It seemed like there were none, so I asked what to do. They said they would look for a donor machine. But a complete set would be too expensive. I continued looking for parts, wondering what to do.
I couldn't find it anywhere, so I was wondering what to do... Then I realized that the 72C was sent by a pin, not a spring. Even if I found a replacement gear, I would just have to replace the original gear and that would be the end of it.
So I decided to try putting a pin in place, even though I didn't think it would work. Since I didn't have a gear to refer to, I didn't just guess where it would be, but instead drilled a hole for the pin based on my general feel. Yes, that's what people call guessing, but the hole you see in the photo above is what I ended up with.
The photo below shows the pin in the hole. I wonder if it will work. If it does, the repair will be cheap.
So, how is it?
Before disassembling the whole thing, I tried to see if the calendar worked properly. It would be OK if the date in the middle and the day of the week in the upper left corner were sent with the pin I used earlier, and it worked fine.
If the pin was originally standing and it was broken, you would know right away by fixing it, but it took me a while to realize it was a spring. I guess I'm getting old and my mind is getting stubborn. No wonder the pine tree is going bald. Hahaha. I have hair. Hahaha.
Then I'll really break it down
There is an R and 730 stamped under the balance. It is in good condition and does not appear to have any particular issues.
Disassembled
I bought this plastic holder a while ago! It may look like I'm using it, but I'm not actually using it. It's hard to use.
I'm looking for a metal one for sale somewhere. I can see the holder on the blog of the CEO of ○n My ○x (God), and I'm jealous. Can you give it to me? Oh, can you give it to me?
I was putting together a certain mouse clock recently, but it seems that you have a dial or a model that is even rarer than the mouse. That's nice. I wonder if you could give it to me. Oh, could you give it to me? Thank you for your continued support!
Until the time
Is this type of Valjoux strong and in good condition? Or rather, it is so energetic that it can shake so much that it hits the ground. By hit, I mean, how can I put it, the ticking of the time becomes a ticking, ...
What? You don't get it? It's going to be a really fast swing. It's going to swing really fast. Hmm, it's a little bit different, but oh well. Who wants to know the details?
We will continue to work on it.
It's finished!
The accuracy seems to be coming along nicely. After that, I'll check the running test and see if the calendar works properly.
If it continues to work without any problems, we plan to complete the overhaul for 30,000 yen plus tax.
Do you think I can get a labor fee if I say something about gear processing? I've told the customer everything, so no. I tried the processing itself without much hope, so this time it's free.
I'm going to try it out to see if it works properly. Thank you for using it from afar! I'm sorry it took so much time.
Next up: IWC Cal.+55231 (maybe)
I only saw that the IWC mark was on the dial, and the movement was stamped PEERLESS. I wondered if it was really an IWC. The back of the movement was properly stamped with IWC and +55231.
What is +55231? 89 is famous, but I've never seen such a strange caliber before. Some overseas websites say it's from the 20s, but I don't think that's the case. If it is, it's probably from the 40s or 50s, I don't know. But it's old.
The accuracy is not good.
When we received the watch, we checked its accuracy with a timegrapher, but it was so bad that the accuracy display did not appear. When we looked at the movement at that point, we noticed that the balance spring was significantly deformed.
I guess it'll be okay since there probably won't be any spare parts. The photo shows the deformed winding hairpin. It's hard to fix the flat hairpin, but winding is even harder (in my opinion). For now, I've left it with an estimate to see if it will cost a certain amount.
Hold the tweezers in both hands and fix it like a crab
I will fix it using tweezers, commonly known as beard pins, and a microscope. If it is severely deformed, it will be impossible to fix. It's so difficult that if there is a shop that can fix it, please go there.
In the photo it looks like it has been fixed to some extent, but the outermost roll is not quite right. It needs some more adjustment.
Looking at the weight
While I'm adjusting the balance, I check to see if the balance is weighted on one side. I roll the roller over the ruby teeth to make sure the weight is even.
Beat Error Adjustment
The shape of the whiskers has become more or less correct, so I am adjusting the beat error. Normally I would check this after the overhaul, but I am working on it to see if I can get a certain level of accuracy. I wonder if I can get a good idea of what I can do.
I tried assembling it for now.
It seems to be working well. If you agree with the estimate, we will proceed to the actual overhaul. Of course, since it is an old unit, there will be no charge if there are other problems or the accuracy is not satisfactory and you return it. Please, please make it work.
Adjust the needle
When I received it, the needle was removed and the sword was missing. I was asked to find a sword that would fit, but while I might be able to find a round one, it's very difficult to find a square one. The needles for square ones are short. I'm not lucky enough to have one in stock, so I'll modify it.
Since it is a blue-dyed needle, a pocket needle would be appropriate for the era, but the hole is too big. I used a chisel to fill the hole and fit it together, as shown in the photo. Naturally, it is very long.
Cutting and Processing
The right is the hour hand, and the left is the long one I cut and processed. Shiny aluminum obviously doesn't fit, and it doesn't get hardened, so the old blued hands look better after all.
Apply white paint to the tip
I installed it for now. It doesn't look too strange in the picture. However, I forced the pinhole in and I want to check the condition of the machine, so I will wait a while and then get back to you with a quote.
I'd like to have a little more time. Oh, thank you for the rice crackers! They were delicious.
Finally, Schauer
Since we only introduce old models, people tend to think that we are that kind of store, but that's not the case here, so I'd like to introduce you to Schauer.
This is a customer who has been asking for my help many times, and the last time I introduced it was a Breitling. I always repair items that I like. Thank you for coming all the way! This time it's a Schauer. I guess there are some out there. It's pretty cool.
Disassemble the case
The key to Schauer is the case. I once saw a photo of Schauer wearing goggles while carving a case in a watch magazine. The bezel is screwed on with a see-through back.
Cartier is the one that makes the screws look more attractive. The case design is much more chunky than Cartier's. Since it's a chronograph, the push buttons are also removed.
The movement is based on ETA7750
The movement is based on the 7750. It's in very good condition. There doesn't seem to be any particular issues. Of course, if you have so many high-end and rare items, you probably don't have many opportunities to use them (laughs). It's really amazing.
Back
I said that it is based on the 7750, but the 7750 has three vertical counters. This model has a coupling wheel at the 12 o'clock subdial, and a chronograph minute counter at 3 o'clock, which is not originally there. This changes the 3 vertical counters to 2 horizontal counters.
I think the 7750 is very convenient, but I'm a bit nervous because I had trouble calculating it with the same model before. There are no parts for these improvements, so it would be a big problem if there was a problem. This time, I was able to work without any problems. I'm glad.
Disassembled
Under assembly
I've worked on the 7750 countless times, so I'll put it together as usual. It's working fine.
Casing
The early Schauer models have the serial number on the dial, so this is just the back. I was told that it's okay to post it on my blog, and if it bothers you, you can just blur out the serial number, but I was still bothered, so I just posted this.
It's a really cool design. Thank you for always ordering rare models from far away! I always enjoy working on them.
Shall I watch Raijin? Sapp vs. Oozanaarashi? Sad Monster Battle? Shall I watch it? ... I'll probably fast forward. Oh, it's 10:50pm now, and the wind and rain are pretty intense in Shizuoka. Everyone, please be careful. See you next time, this was No. Adios!
