Rolex... Custom, you know?

Hello everyone! This is No from Matsuno Watch Shop. I've been slacking off on updating again. I'm sorry. I've been busy every day, and it's a pain, so I've been slacking off.

My goal is to do it slowly, so I hope you will check it out from time to time. I've been busy, or rather, I've been having a bit of trouble with it, and it's not me, it's the repairs. The daily difference is off, quite a bit. And it's not a specific watch, it's several watches. I'm checking the accuracy by recording it every day in a running test.

Then, every other day, the accuracy would be off by about 10 seconds. Then, the next day, it would return to normal. I thought it was strange, but when I measured it with a timegrapher, the accuracy was not bad, so I looked into it. But there was nothing strange. It was strange, and I was worried about what to do because the deadline was approaching, when I finally found the cause.

Matsu and I check the accuracy on alternate days. One is on the early shift, the other on the late shift. And we each measure the accuracy using our own reference time (radio-controlled clock). Ah, do you get it now? That's right, my radio-controlled clock wasn't receiving radio signals and was off by about 10 seconds. That's why it was off by 10 seconds every day. I feel so relieved now.

I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I will be able to inform you that it will be completed soon. If I knew the cause, I would be like, "What?", but it's surprisingly hard to understand. I don't think that radio clocks are out of sync. Speaking of which, I heard they are considering introducing daylight saving time. I'd say don't do it.

Well, there's not much to talk about, but I'll talk a little about customization.

The first photo is the EX1, this is the Datejust

This is an old Datejust that was given to me by my father, but it is difficult to use as it is. After researching online, I found that the movement is apparently similar to the EX1. If so, is there any way to customize it to be similar? That was the request I received.

Well, it's not impossible, but it will cost a lot. It will cost a lot to get genuine parts, and even if there are compatible parts, I don't know if they exist. But if you ask me to try it as much as possible, it's hard to refuse. Well, I'll try.

By the way, the Datejust in the photo is one that we previously sold. It looks like the same combination.

The movement is overhauled

There is an exterior and an interior, but let's start with the interior. The base caliber is the 15 series, so it's almost the same. The difference is whether it has a date or not, but the EX has a non-day. This means that you don't need a date wheel (calendar), so you can remove the unnecessary parts.

This might seem like a good idea, but the Datejust has higher hour and minute hands to accommodate the calendar. Therefore, to make it a non-day watch, the gears must be changed to lower ones.

I was very lucky to have a stock of non-day calendars at home, so I exchanged them for the parts around the calendar in the photo. I was super lucky, and those parts alone would have cost about 20,000 to 30,000 yen. I was very lucky to be able to exchange things.

The interior is over, on to the exterior

I had to change a lot of things, but I didn't take many pictures because I didn't think it would turn out like that. For some reason, I took detailed pictures of the needle part, so I'll explain them.

I can't use the genuine tritium needles because they cost over 100,000 yen for a set. There's no need to go that far with customization, so I'll use the corresponding parts.

In the photo, the luminous material is too white and does not match the corresponding needle, so I split the luminous material and left only the skeleton.

Let's make it a burnt glow-in-the-dark color.

The luminous material deteriorates over time. Luminova doesn't change much, but tritium discolors and eventually cracks. When inserting and removing old hands, the luminous material may fade, so in that case, we will repaint it to a color that is as close as possible to the original color.

The photo shows paints that reproduce the burnt color. There are actually many more colors available. There is also luminous paint for watches, and I'm not sure if it's for nails. You can mix different colors with different powders.

Second Sword

It's hard to tell since it was just applied.

Long and short sword

Yeah, well, it was right after I applied it...

What happens when it dries?

The dial is also a custom dial that I just happened to have in stock. It fits the 15 series. ...I wonder if it's okay, won't people think I make fakes on a daily basis? It was just a coincidence. Anyway, how do you feel about the hands? This is the limit of the color I can get with the luminous material I have.

Tritium changes in various ways depending on the individual, like this yellowish? ochre? There are powdery types and slimy types, but I can't make the slimy type. Slimy.

It's finished!

Customizing a Datejust to an EX1. This time, I was lucky and it went well. I replaced a lot of things.

First, the dial is from our stock. The hands are repainted, and the bezel is imported from overseas. The crystal is modified from a similar model. The crown is also changed from gold to second-hand silver. Somehow, it took shape.

In the end, the overhaul and exterior work cost about 70,000 yen, but I feel like it was a lot cheaper. At first glance, it probably doesn't look like a custom, and you probably wouldn't think it's a fake. Of course, it would be bad to put it next to a real 1016, but that's not an opportunity that comes around very often. ...I'm not trying to make a fake! It's just a job that was requested of me.

By the way, if you read this article, I would like to customize my Daijas, but it definitely won't cost 70,000 yen. But it would cost about 150,000 yen, right? 1016. If you think about it like that, oh no... oh no, it was a customization job that was strongly requested. The customer was happy with it, and I thought that it was worth trying if it was a job like that. Thank you very much!

Next up: ladies' Rolex

As a private shop in a delicate position where we have to do everything, we receive various requests. This includes the above customization, but recently we received a request to turn a sub that costs about 1 million yen into a limited edition model called Supreme?

The diameter of the dial is large, and I never cut the outer diameter, but I did it. I told him not to say that "It was made by a watchmaker called Matsuno". I wrote about it on my blog, but I will never do it again.

Oh, in that case, I'll introduce you to the super famous watch repair shop Ze○ma○worth (lol). Let's do that (lol). Oh, thank you for your continued support! Just kidding!

Now, moving on to the topic at hand, the ladies' Rolex in the photo was also a request for such a customization. It is a genuine Rolex, but the client wanted it overhauled and the dial replaced with a custom one.

Sorry, the photos are almost the same.

The overhaul is now complete, but this 1161 has some quirks. A quirk. A big quirk. I've been watching Chidori's YouTube videos a lot lately. It's not a big quirk, but it tends to be heavy to wind. The clutch is still developing, or it's prone to deterioration over time.

Another thing is that posture differences are easily noticeable. This is probably due to aging, but I will adjust it as much as possible. That would be fine, but since the dial is replaced with a clean one, it doesn't seem like it's old. I think. It may be difficult for women to understand this, especially.

Date

Even though we change the dial, it is not genuine. Therefore, the date may not change properly. What I mean is...

Genuine dial

Do you see the dent in the middle? This dent does not exist in the case of custom dials. This puts a strain on the date wheel and does not give the date smoothly. It stops halfway and makes the display very unpleasant.

Let's cut it.

You can see in the picture that there is no indentation. It looks flat. Normally, you would never grab the dial with three claws, but I have no choice but to do it this time. Let's carve it to create an indentation.

The right is the original, the left is after customization.

With this indentation, the date display will never go wrong. It will be easier to use because you won't be stressed by the appearance. Why do we do this? Well, we receive dozens of requests for the same watch. They are our biggest customers. Or rather, we are a subcontractor, so we will do the best we can.

However, sometimes I see items being sold on a certain online auction site with the message "Oh, I repaired this." I'm not the seller, but it makes me feel a bit nervous. Please buy it for as much as possible. I did my best to repair it.

It's like there's something to it, but it's not. It's just an ordinary day. I feel like I'm doing things that manufacturers and major repair shops don't do, but I'll do my best.

It's Obon, so I should visit the grave sometimes. I wish I had a day off. I thought that if I became independent, I could take time off depending on how I felt, but every day I'm reminded that I can take time off. I can't take a day off.

Because no one is going to fix it. Let's do our best.

See you next time. This is Nono. Adios! ObonObon
