CITIZEN Citizen hand-wound overhaul

Citizen Hand-wound

Symptoms: Immobility (spring broken)

Repair contents: Overhaul, mainspring repair, case cleaning

Repair cost: 16,500 yen

I took it apart and cleaned it. It's a Citizen hand-wound watch with 7 jewels, a common model at the time. The more jewels there are the better, but 7 jewels is a small number in terms of functional jewels, so you can tell it's a movement in the general retail price range.

Spring broken

The mainspring is broken and needs to be replaced, but there are no new ones available. You can search for a substitute spring by thickness, width, length, etc., but there are no substitutes for this model. Therefore, you will need to modify the broken part so that it can be used.

A hole is drilled between the original spring and the barb, and the spring is connected with a rivet. This allows the spring to be used. Of course, it would be best to replace it with a new one if you have one, but if you can't get one, this is how you repair it. Depending on how broken the spring is, replacement may be the only option.

Check whether the mainspring can be wound and how many turns it has.

I assembled it. The shock-resistant mechanism is Citizen's original Parashock.

This is the back side.

The dial and hands are attached. The precision will be slightly reduced depending on the year and movement specifications, but it is adjusted to be within a certain range.

Even domestically produced replacement parts are becoming scarce. If you can repair it, you can continue to use it for a while while keeping an eye on it.
