Rolex Explorer II: Reference 16570 Caliber 3185
Symptoms: Regular maintenance, etc.
Repair contents: Overhaul, spring and gasket replacement, case and bracelet cleaning
Repair cost: 27,500 yen
This is the Rolex Explorer II. It is a relatively popular model among Rolexes.
I disassembled it and cleaned it. The movement is 3185, but the 31 series has few malfunctions, and the most common cause of it stopping is a broken mainspring.
I even assembled the time mechanism. It has a double bridge and a free-sprung mechanism, which provides good accuracy.
The 3185 can move the hour hand independently. The ruby-covered parts make this possible. The gears are not used in the 3187, the successor to the 3185 that I mentioned in my previous blog, but I imagine that the change was not due to a problem with the parts themselves, but rather to the cost and effort required to make them.
This is the back side.
The dial and hands have been installed. Only the hour hand can be moved, so installing the hands is relatively easy. A feature of the gears mentioned earlier is that they have a large range of backlash, so the position of the hands appears to be out of sync when turned clockwise or counterclockwise. It is recommended that you set the time clockwise.
We will now proceed with the running test after casing the watch. I believe this movement has achieved a very high level of perfection in terms of isochronism, duration, and robustness. It will work even without maintenance, but the parts will wear out, so we recommend regular maintenance. The accuracy of a watch that has been regularly maintained will differ from that of a watch that has not been maintained.
We also offer a variety of repair services.
